Issue 4; October 14, 1998

Some awesome matchups this week! Look out, this could be one of the best weeks we see all year. Father and son square off for the first time, as do a pair of brotherly friends. Two first place teams battle in a fight to stay on top. Finally (tankers dont count), there is the battle of the bottoms. TC and Psychos put their 2-4 record on the line in what could separate last place from top five. Here's a game by game look:

*** Upset of the Week ***

The JV experience vs. Midnight Mauraders

Coach Geoff Johnson has had a list of problems this season, but somehow has still managed a 3-3 record. MM has been listed as an underdog in every single game this season. MM has had a story book saeson thus far, as they were ranked near last in preseason. JV is the opposite. Preseason favorites to go the distance, JV has somehow managed to slide to a 3-3 record. This game should prove very interesting. Does JV get his team back on track and ready them for a serious run? Or does Coach GJ (1997 GM of the year) continue this cinderella season by defeating the experienced football giants and placing his team closer to league recognition as a legitimate contender? JV has been consistent, but received a 92 point shalaking last week to his arch rivals, AA. JV need not worry if Elway will start, cuz he has a bye, as does Dudley and KC's defense. Although they may need a week off after being embarrassed by the patriots last week. WRs are tough and can hang with anyone in league. RBs may be the best. JV may take a hit with TEN defense playing against a powerful Bengal offense. JV has no problems putting up points each week, the problem comes with character. Elway finally played last week after last second benchings the weeks prior. Johnson proved to be a Buffalo mistake and KC assumed since they were the best defense that they could just show up and they would win. Not anymore. Reality check. Preseason faves need to get their finger out of their ass and start playing some ball. This is the most talented team in the league and Coach JV will not accept anything less than a victory each week. .500 is unacceptable for this highly talented team. Newly acquired Dan Marino had his best game of the season last week but plays an improving Rams defense this week. Manning + start = loss has just truned into Marino - Manning + start = win. GJ knew the problem and dealt with it, dropping only the struggling Tiki Barber in place of Dan. Eddie George was projected as a top back this year, and finally had his best game last week getting 12 vs. Rage. RB position is woeful after George as Kaufman has a bye. Help at WR is always present and good things should continue this week. Gonzalez seems to be a weakness here, but only has 5 less season points than JV's Dudley, who will sit the bye this week. With added strength at QB, hope of George's continued success, and WRs always puttin up numbers, MM's success this week may ride on it's defense. Combining for 49 pts last week and outshining Rage...MM will rely on Arizona to dump on a weak giants offense, and if NE can defeat KC...Miami better beware. No more will I underestimate Coach GJ and his Mighty Mauraders! Cinderella was due home at Midnight.

Thundering Terd vs. Tree Huggin' Hippies

Tanking is one thing, but as if Terd wasn't bad enough....Coach CJ dealt future hall of famer Dan Marino and got Tiki Barber in return? Although Barber will start for TT, he will not for NYG. Powerful WRs would've been more logical to deal. With shortage of QBs in league, i find it hard to believe that Barber was the best available trade. Give credit to coach GJ for exploiting the tank and it's valuables. Tree has finally made it to the top of the rankings where they belong. Coach Fusinski's team started weak, but has come on to win 4 straight. He will look to make it five this week against tank. THH will face a tough challenge as this could actually be tank's best week due soley to the fact that Randall-Moss play the Skins this week. Two players wont be enough to handle the firepower of Tree. THH is so good it's scary.

*** Family Game of the Week ***

T & A vs. Attitude Adjustment

Both of these teams have been surprises, unfortunately for TA it has been the wrong way. Coach Pa relies on his two QBs to get the job done. Plummer has had problems in recent weeks, but Banks will help him carry the load. Newly acquired RBs didnt account for much last week, but expect Holcombe to bounce back this week against Miami. Pritchard made Coach Pa look like a genius after outshining galloway by 8, but he will sit the bye this week. Sanders has been great in every week, except the two he has been in the lineup. That could change this week vs NYG. Allen is the backbone of the team, and consistently plays well. Moore and Rice combine to form a dynamic duo that can be dangerous against anyone. Coates has finally come alive gaining two TDs last week. All three defenses can hang tough on any given week, but newly acquired panthers should really turn it up against the hated cowboys. T&A is no push over and will put up a fight every week. Could spell trouble for AA if Holcombe ends RB woes. AA has held off almost every challenge. Defeating arch rival JV in last weeks game, 188-96, AA is looking like a real contender. Galloway is out this week, but Conway is back and should be Kramer's fave target once again. Cleeland's worst week was his first on AA, and if he settles... it could be huge for AA. Chandler has stayed healthy and plays like a pro bowler every game. Peete had a good week last week and may finally have the Eagles believing he's the man. No Terrell Davis and no Galloway...plus an injured Bus could leave AA open for defeat, however AA has found a way to win and Coach Vince will be using everything his dad has taught him to try and pull this one out. Unfortunately for AA, coach Pa still has a few lessons to give.

*** Game of the Week ***

Miller Time vs. Rage

It doesn't get much better than this. Two 4-2 first place teams going head to head in a battle for bragging rights for the #2 rank. The awesome firepower of Miller "Prime" Time's QB duo and explosive WRs vs the stronghold defenses and consistent RBs of the relentless rage. Classic matchup as these two intense teams go head to head for the first of two meetings this year, the other being the season finale in week 14. Rage has dominated most opponents and has 2 of the top 6 defenses in the league. WRs have been fair and RBs consistent enough to pace MT for first place tie. Shannon Sharpe will be greatly missed this week as McGee gets his first start. Emmitt plays Chicago and Robert Smith plays the Skins...it doesn't get much easier than that. Kanell had an off week, but will look to bounce back against divison foe Cardinals. "Prime" Time has his players primed and ready for war. Miller has enough RBs to juggle his lineup each week and put his players in the best position needed to win. The bye week hurts Rage slightly more than MT, but both teams will be missing their top defenses. This game could be decided on both teams third defense. Indy faces the top offense of the Niners but the Chargers take on the Eagles. This could very well be the next statement in Rage's pursuit for the title and league respect. MT has been tough, but the Rage is always relentless and has a movement with the quickness. When they say jump, you say "how high?" Rage continues to shock the world, myself included, and this time does it without his top point getter.

Toin Coss vs. Psychos

Toin Coss started the season 2-0. Unfortunately those were the only two wins for TC. Coach Joe McHugh has finally made some roster moves that have fans everywhere from Ypsilanti to Sterling Heights excited about a possible turn around. Engram's made some tough catches in previous weeks, and will he be the go to guy now that Conway has returned to the Bears lineup. My sources say yes, due to the fact that "Prime Time" Deion will be shutting down Conway. Detroit has an unpredictable defense that can lose points one week and explode the next. Breaking into the lineup will be tough though as TC holds strong with Miami and Jacksonville. TC's RBs were stable until Stewart suffered a season ender. Staley showed promise, but is starting to give way to Garner a little. Natrone Means business as he is the second in the NFL in rushing yards trailing only Terrell Davis. Barry "god" Sanders is far overdue for a record setting week, and what better team to do it against then his division rival, the Packers. Morton has the talent to light it up any given week and adds another dimension to this team. This could be TC's best week at WR thus far. QB situation was beginning to look shaky, but TC gutted it out through the tough weeks and it paid off as he now has 4 starting QBs. Look for this wise GM to shop one of those and possibly upgrade at RB or continue to upgrade at WR. Psycho power has declined to psycho puppy power. No breaks here for Coach Dave "Crazy Shorts" Stampor. A team of warriors and fighters. Reed played with a separated shoulder and gained 70+ rec yards, Green gutted out two points while puncturing his lung, Watters gained 8 against the defending Super Bowl champs and just two weeks ago Watters grinded out 5 pts playing in a monsoon. Character and talent are not issues with this team (besides Scott Mitchell.) Injuries and bye week scheduling are. 5-6 of Psycho's starters did not start the first week of the season, and 4 were not even on the team. WRs are powerful, but an injured Reed cannot be expected to carry the load every week. Two backups look to get the nod at QB. Picking up Buffalo's defense was a great move by coach Crazy Shorts. They passed the first test of SF, and they get their second real test against Jacksonville this week. Defense is definitely the strength of the Psychos, but unfortunately that will not be enough to defeat the mighty TC.

*** Coach's Corner ***

--- Coach Brian Babjacks's thoughts on this week's game vs. Miller Time ---

"Well, what can I say? Four months ago I barely new what fantasy football was. Now, I am a crazed nut trying to get my hands on anything related to football. Sometimes I think I annoy my roommates, but that's o.k... one of them is just jealous of my team's success. As we approach the halfway point of the season, I see a bunch of teams with possibilities of winning it all. My Rage, Miller Time, Tree Huggin' Hippies, and Attitude Adjustment all have great shots. Then comes Toin Coss, J.V., and the rest who are all also capable of winning. To be honest if it weren't for my great defenses, I don't know where I'd be. Seattle is just phenomenol and Green Bay is awesome. But I have been lucky also with my lower pick like Batch and Emmit. So as long as Robert Smith stays healthy, Kordell picks his game up, and Sharpe keeps giving me great numbers, I think I have a good chance at the playoffs as a rookie. This week is very important though. Playing Miller Time could really show both of us who is kings of this league. He has a great team and I could use some help from my receivers. So enough of my bullshit, lets play some football!! Go Lions(Batch)!!!!! Thanks, Rage Owner and G.M., Brian Babjack."
